Winy Euristil's Story
About Winy Euristil:
Winy, an international student from Haiti, began her studies in the U.S. in 2020. After earning her bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems in 2023, she chose to further her education with a master's degree in Business Analytics. As the eldest of three sisters, Winy is dedicated to staying active at the gym and continuously expanding her knowledge in analytics.
Winy’s journey at university has been marked by significant personal growth. Initially a shy and quiet girl, she has blossomed into a confident and courageous student leader. Her transformation is evident in her role as a graduate assistant at the International Student Services office, where she now confidently assists with onboarding new students and addresses a wide range of student inquiries. Winy’s ability to overcome her initial shyness and take on leadership responsibilities serves as an inspiration to her peers, demonstrating her remarkable growth and commitment to helping others.
Questions About Being an International Student:
Why did you choose FAU? What do you like about FAU the most?
When researching universities, FAU truly stood out. The diverse student body immediately attracted me, as it creates a rich learning environment with a variety of perspectives. Additionally, the course offerings perfectly aligned with my academic interests. Knowing that FAU has a lot of resources available to support students throughout their academic journey was also a big plus.
What is the most exciting part about being an international student?
The most exciting part of being an international student is learning about other cultures. I can engage with people from different backgrounds, which allows me to gain new perspectives.
What has been your biggest challenge as an international student? How did you respond to overcome that challenge?
As an international student, overcoming the language barrier has been my greatest challenge. English is not my first language, and I had to learn it upon arriving in the U.S. The language barrier made it difficult for me to follow and understand the lectures. However, I regularly sought assistance from the writing center and tutors. I also stayed on top of my assignments and recorded my lectures when it was too difficult to take notes. Through these efforts, I was able to improve my English skills and maintain excellent grades.
What is your advice for international students who are starting at FAU?
My advice to international students who are starting at FAU is to take full advantage of FAU’s resources and networking opportunities. Students have access to the career center, tutors, and various clubs and organizations. It is also important to connect with classmates and professors.

What is your future endeavor?
My immediate goal is to secure a position as a data analyst. After gaining experience, I plan on identifying an area that sparks my interest and specializing in that field.
How did you get into that passion/endeavor?
During my undergraduate studies, I enrolled in a Python course and truly enjoyed working with data. This led me to choose a career path focused on analytics.
What does that goal mean to you? What is the impact on you and/or others?
Data is a powerful tool that can help make a real difference. It is used to tackle challenges in areas like education, healthcare, finance, and security. Data analysis has the potential to transform business and society as a whole.

The second floor of the Breezeway, Center for Teaching and Learning.
Where do you want to travel in the U.S./ Where have you already travelled to?
I want to travel to New Orleans because of its incredible cuisine! The flavors remind me a lot of Caribbean food, which I love. I have already experienced the diverse landscapes of Kansas, Missouri, New York, and New Jersey. I have a feeling New Orleans will be the perfect place to explore.
